After months of testing in markets like Italy, Brazil, and South Korea, Twitter has confirmed the global launch of a new Instagram-like feature called “Fleets”.

Taking many of the main features of Instagram Stories , Fleet will give all Twitter users the ability to post ephemeral content in real time for the first time on the social network created in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams.

What are the Fleets?

The “stories” format has proven to be very popular since the arrival of Snapchat on the social media scene in 2011. This concept that works has therefore not surprisingly been adapted by Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and, more recently, Twitter.

Unlike regular Tweets, Fleets disappear after 24 hours and cannot be retweeted or liked.

If your DMs are open, people will be able to respond to your Fleets with a simple text-based message or emoji.

How to share a Fleet?

Fleets are being rolled out to countries around the world, so you may already have access to this new feature.

Here’s how to publish your first Fleet:

To create a Fleet, start by pressing the “+” button that appears at the top of your dedicated Fleet feed, just like you do with Instagram Stories.

From there, you can type up to 280 characters of text or add photos, GIFs, or videos. You can “fleet” text, reactions to Tweets, photos or videos and customize your Fleets with various background and text options.

Once you have clicked on “Publish”, your Fleet will appear in an Instagram Stories type feed at the top of other users’ feeds.

To share a Tweet in a Fleet, tap on the “Share” icon at the bottom of the Tweet, then on “Share in the Fleet”.
