A Kid from Las Vegas
Kevin Rose was born on February 21, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Passionate about computers, he pursued graduate studies in this field at the University of Nevada. When he was only twenty years old, he interrupted them to work. He then joined the Department of Energy, as a technical reviewer. But what interests him, in particular, is to join one or the other of these Ireland Email List companies which are being created on the side of Silicon Valley. It is not for now. The internet bubble will lead him to change his “plans”.

He then joined the world of television. Through the little door. His first job, in this universe, is production manager for The Screen Savers. The Screen Savers will then become “Attack of the Show”. It is a live television program dedicated to new technologies, on the G4 channel. It will remain on the air, on TechTV, from 1998 to 2005. After some time, Kevin Rose is offered to go on the air. He keeps little chronicles. Then will become a facilitator.
In 2004, G4 merges with Tech TV to form G4techTV (which will become G4 again a year later). Unlike many of his colleagues, Kevin Rose chooses to stay with the new entity.
In May 2005, he resigned to create his own internet TV channel with some of his colleagues. He co-founded Revision3. This channel then broadcasts various thematic programs dedicated to DIY, cinema and new technologies, in particular. Kevin Rose then connects the “videoblogs”.
The Creator of Digg
In 2004, Kevin Rose launched Digg.
Omidyar Network, Greylock Partners, and several business Angels, including Marc Andreesen, the founder of Netscape, will invest in the deal. Between 2 and 3 million dollars will thus be raised.
Digg is a bookmarking platform that allows Internet users to share their findings and vote for the content (blogs, articles, etc.) published by other users of the platform. In a way, everyone becomes a great “editor”.
In an interview with ZDNet in 2006, Kevin talks about how he came up with the idea of creating Digg.com:
“I was a huge fan of MacRumors.com. But the site frustrated me sometimes, because some very interesting articles were however little highlighted. In September 2004, I therefore started looking for a way to give Internet users back control of information. The idea was to rely on the collective wisdom of the community, which seemed to me to be there more able to prioritize news with relevance. ”

Digg.com had some trouble in its early days, with its first version, for intellectual property issues. But everything is back to normal. And the site is a hit. It climbed into the Top 100 of the most visited sites. And it will stay there for years to come. Kevin Rose becomes a real star of Web 2.0.
On August 14, 2006, Kevin Rose even made the front page of Business Week magazine. The title alone is enough to understand the tremendous enthusiasm that Digg then arouses: “How This Kid Made $ 60 Million In 18 Months? (How this kid made $ 60 million in 18 months!). However, the journalist’s version was not necessarily the exact reflection of the situation, especially with regard to the amounts indicated.
By the late 2000s, Digg was valued up to $ 200 million. But the platform is not sold. So much so, that when Digg was sold, much later, in 2012, the company Betaworks bought the site for only $ 500,000.
