The start of a new year inspires all people around the world to make changes. It is always the opportunity to take stock of our lives, and to bring something new in our career or even just in our environment, and to think about the improvements that we can make there. Well, at Google , this is also the case!
The world’s largest search engine took advantage of the start of 2021 to conduct a major visual overhaul of the mobile search experience, which was rolled out at the end of January. Google chief designer Aileen Cheng took matters into her own hands.
Here’s what she says about it: “We wanted to take a step back and simplify the design of our search interface a bit so people can find what they’re looking for faster and easier,” she says. “I find it really refreshing. For me, it’s a breath of fresh air! ”
Like all redesign companies, this one also took a lot of effort from Aileen and her team, because rethinking the visual design of a new design is really complex. And this is all the more true given the evolution of Google search. The search engine giant not only organizes and governs information on the web, but all information around the world. Aileen Cheng started out by working on the organization of the web pages, but with the incredible diversity present in the types of content and information, she and her team had to put a lot of effort into making the end result a success.
Here are the five things that motivated the redesign of the mobile results page:

1. Highlighting information
Google wanted search results to shine, pop in the eyes of Internet users, and allow them to focus on the information rather than the design elements around it. It’s about simplifying the user experience, and getting people to the Japan Phone Number List information they’re looking for as clearly and quickly as possible.
2. Make the text easier to read
The design team succeeded in accomplishing this goal by using larger, bolder text , so that the human eye can scan and understand search results faster. The results and section titles have also been enlarged, and the update also includes more Google-specific fonts, which are already appearing in Android and Gmail. “It was also important to make consistency in when and how we use fonts in research, which also helps people analyze information more effectively,” says Aileen Cheng.
3. Create more space to breathe
Google decided to redesign end-to-end results and minimize the use of shadows, so you can immediately see what you’re looking for. The overall effect is positive, and it feels like you have more visual space and leeway for search results and other content to take center stage.
Use color to highlight what’s important
The design team led by Aileen Cheng focused on centering the content and images on a clean background, and on the more intentional use of color to guide the eye to important information without letting it go. – either disturbing or distracting.
5. Build on the “Googley” feeling.
If you’ve noticed that the new design looks a bit more bubbling and leaping, then you are right. “If you look at the Google logo, you’ll notice it’s got a lot of curvature in it, and we’ve actually borrowed that design element, and taken it to other places,” says Aileen. You’ll see this in parts of this redesign, like in icons and rounded images. These rounded shapes are already part of DNA, and you just have to look at the search bar or the magnifying glass to see them.
Part of the job was also to refresh the overall look, while keeping the new interface familiar to Google regulars.
